BLOODROOT & MAGIC
Bloodroot is used primarily for protection, warding off evil, and breaking hexes. It is also highly poisonous and can be used for powerful cursing. The juxtaposition!
Bloodroot is also said to:
- protect your marriage
- invite love
- invite sex
- give you power and authority

Friendly toxicity reminder~
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is quite dangerous due to the toxin it produces (sanguinarine), and is an
escharotic (warning: link contains an image of what this looks like). A number of people like to go and dig up this “spooky” plant, enthralled by its blood-like juice and mystical properties. Which is all well and good if you take the proper precautions.
A lot of people, especially in the magical community, prefer to use their bare hands when harvesting most plants and digging things up, and/or when working with the herb later. You’d put gloves and proper eye protection on when chopping hot peppers, right? Well if you’re going to work with Bloodroot you need to wear gloves, eye protection, and cover your skin. Avoid getting the juices of this plant on your skin – and never get ingest it or get it in any open wounds or mucus membranes.
Since the root tendrils are often snapped off in harvesting, and even when not are pretty easy to snap off accidentally, always wear gloves and keep your face away from it. As with any potentially hazardous plants, always take proper precautions.
(I totally misread OP the first time somehow and didn’t see that it already included a warning about being poisonous, my bad! Still, I’m not taking this down because this plant grows in my area and as someone who has literally had to warn people about this plant before irl, I feel obligated, idk.)
